It is with great sadness that I must announce the discontinuation of the Apogee Doctor On Call program. I will always have fond memories of the excitement throughout our group as we were building the program as well as the overwhelmingly positive comments from friends and patients about the care they received.
From the outset, we designed Apogee Doctor On Call to be a best-of-breed product. Other similar services rely on physicians who are in offices, clinics, or hospitals to respond to calls between patients. In order to meet our standards for quality and safety, our physicians were dedicated to the program, meaning they were standing by for your convenience, not ours. While other on-call services have 45-minute wait times, ours averaged less than 2 minutes for an entire year. This is one reason we achieved the highest patient satisfaction I have seen in my more than 20 years as a physician, with over 99.99% of our patients ranking their experience as 5 out of 5. However, despite glowing reviews from patients and an advertising budget that would make a congressman blush, we were unable to reach patient volumes that would allow the service to be economically viable.
For me personally, I see this as much more than a financial loss. Apogee Doctor On Call, or ADOC, as we call it, gave me great pleasure. Reviewing the calls and reading emails from patients brightened my day and warmed my heart. It was that feeling that drove me to become a doctor in the first place. I am sincerely hopeful that we can someday bring ADOC back, and if we do, I will be writing you again, asking you to put your faith in us as you have in the past. I wish you and your family all the health and happiness the world has to offer, but above all, thank you for believing in us and trusting us with your health.
